What I do for a living...

I lecture at Departamento de Engenharia Informática (Computer Science Department) of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (Polytechnical Institute of Porto - School of Engineering)

I'm head of the .NET Laboratory of ISEP/IPP and Director of the post-graduate program of Enterprise Application Engineering.

In the scope of this post graduate course, I use the book “Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture” by Martin Fowler as a textbook in my module about patterns and architecture. This is a great book with lots of knowledge sharing and advice, and a great catalogue of patterns. The book has a wonderful text description about “putting it all together”, but at least for my students, I felt the need to transmit that knowledge in a more integrated view of the patterns in form of code and diagrams. As such, I’ve prepared a slide deck and workbench application where I take the sample application for revenue recognitions and implement it using different architectural styles (focusing on Business and Data Access patterns). I'm a researcher at GECAD (Knowledge Engineering and Decision Support Group) where I've developed my PhD in Computer Science about Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, codenamed Fabricare.
